Help & Knowledge Base
Guides and explanations to help you search, filter, and interpret data from the archive.
How to search journals
Use the search box to look up journal name, ISSN, or E-ISSN. The search supports partial matches and is case-insensitive.
- Exact ISSN: enter full 8-digit ISSN (e.g.,
1234-5678). - Journal name: try short fragments — e.g.,
international journal. - Advanced: use quotes in the search input to prioritize exact phrase matches (if your front-end supports it).
Understanding coverage years
Each journal record may include one or more coverage year ranges indicating periods when the journal was listed. Examples:
2016-2019— included in the list during those years.2012, 2014-2016— sporadic membership; provenance notes explain details.
Note: If coverage is unclear in the source, we mark the entry with a confidence indicator and explanation in the detail view.
Using filters & advanced search
Filters let you narrow results by year, subject area, or membership confidence.
- Open the filter panel (or use the top bar) and select a year or range — results update live.
- Combine filters: subject + year to reduce false positives.
- Per-page controls allow you to increase result counts for exports.
Interpreting indexing & notes
Records may include indexing metadata (e.g., Scopus, Web of Science) when that information was captured in the source. Indexing badges are historical snapshots and do not represent current indexing status unless explicitly noted.
Examples & use cases
Example 1: A PhD candidate wants to confirm whether a journal they published in 2018 was listed in UGC CARE that year. Search by ISSN or journal name, select year 2018 in the filter, and confirm the coverage range and provenance.
Example 2: A librarian needs a CSV extract for departmental records. Use the dataset download on the Dataset page or request a custom extract via Contact.
Troubleshooting common issues
- No results: try broader keywords, remove special characters, or search by ISSN.
- Multiple matches: check ISSN/E-ISSN for unique identification.
- Outdated info: check the provenance note and snapshot date; if it's an error, report it via Contact.
Data downloads & citations
We publish periodic dataset snapshots (CSV/JSON). Each snapshot includes a recommended citation string and a timestamp. If you reuse the data, please cite the snapshot date and include a link back to the archive.
Download: Dataset snapshots — or request a custom export.
